I can’t believe we are already halfway through 2023, and with this issue, we are almost halfway through our first volume of the Lunenburg Barnacle!
Some of you may have lived in Lunenburg forever, and some of you may just be here for a visit, but either way, thank you for picking up our little paper, reading our stories, or doing our crossword. We are so happy to have you here, and we hope that the Barnacle brings you joy and makes you feel a part of the community here in Lunenburg County.
– Carmen Cumming, Layout Editor
This issue is also our biggest yet! We have 10 pages in print full of news stories, local content, recipes, and games. Check out some online highlights, and a PDF version of Issue 5 below.
Vol 1., No. 5 Highlights
We celebrated Asian Heritage Month with A Brief History of Chinese Laundries in Lunenburg County and saying “Howdy neighbour” to Michael Kim, the owner of Smuggler’s Cove Inn.
We also discovered a goose theme to this months issue through our crossword: A Wild Goose Chase and through our monthly bird column “What the Peck” featuring the celebrities of the northern skies, The Canada Goose.
This June, we are keeping you in the know about the upcoming Lunenburg mayoral election, Bridgewater’s first ever Pride parade, 10 Proposals to Save the Lunenburg Academy, and about Ancient Forest’s new leadership.
We are giving you something to think about with “Surviving the Song that Doesn’t End“, some ideas on transit and ridesharing in our region, contemplating whether General Stores are Good for Your Health, wondering what people in Lunenburg are reading, and also A Tale of Two Bass.
Finally, we have some fun in store for you. Have you ever wondered “What South Shore Goblin are You?” (Maybe you wonder why Goblin Mania is sweeping the South Shore?) Or maybe you have heard of Cheepie, Basil and Eihwaz, the budgies from Bridgewater? Did you ever wonder if there is a connection between Robin Williams and Lunenburg? Or would you like to try a new recipe for Lemon Lacies?
Find all these stories and more here on our June stories page.
