We are the Lunenburg Barnacle.

Our Story
We are an alternative print-monthly, digital-sporadically publication chronicling the every day of Lunenburg County on both sides of the LaHave.
Established in 2023, we are an independent, volunteer-driven cooperative committed to connecting you to the people and events in our communities.
Our print edition highlights news, trivia and puzzles to inform and entertain. Find our analogue version at many fine local establishments on the second Thursday of every month.
Our Mission
The Lunenburg Barnacle started as an idea between pub trivia team members at the Knot Pub in the seaside town of Lunenburg, Nova Scotia. Motivated by their love of the community and surrounding area, the group of friends realized their skillset was uniquely positioned to fill a newspaper-sized void.
We rely on monthly patrons and local business advertising to cover our small operation costs. The Barnacle is committed to never putting behind a paywall or mandatory subscription. Each month, with the help of over 20 volunteer writers, illustrators and editors, the Barnacle shares why Lunenburg County is a dynamic and intriguing place to live, work and play.
The Lunenburg Barnacle is a publication of the Lunenburg Barnacle Publishing Co-Operative Ltd.
We want to create a newspaper that is…
Lighthearted
Highlighting positive and uplifting stories in our community to bring everyone “into the fold” of Lunenburg County, Nova Scotia.
Informative
Telling reliable and authentic news stories with the highest quality and accuracy possible to keep people informed while promoting accountability. Using a solutions journalism approach, we will attempt to seek out possibilities for growth and improvement and avoid criticism when possible.
Hyperlocal
Providing a platform for the underreported, undervalued, and plain old weird stories in order to start conversations with our communities.
Inclusive
Thoughtfully choosing content for all our print stories, online stories, events, and advertisements so as not to intentionally exclude anyone. Providing free print and online editions so that news can remain accessible.
