Elizabeth’s Books, in the heart of the Town of Lunenburg’s bookselling district, boasts a rental library of more than five thousand DVDs. The shop usually opens around 6 p.m. each evening, never closing earlier than 10 p.m. Each month, proprietor Chris Webb recommends films for your consideration.
“August is Western Month,” says Chris.
Saddle up for August’s top picks:
Blazing Saddles (1974)
Blazing Saddles is a comedy western directed by the legendary Mel Brooks, who has a “weird” connection to Lunenburg.
Still working hard at the impressive age of 97, Brooks’ newest production is History of the World, Part II.
The sketch series, released this March on Hulu, stars Jack Black as Joseph Stalin. Black featured last year as Wolfman Jack in Weird: The Al Yankovic Story, a twisted retelling of the life of parody artist “Weird” Al Yankovic.
Lunenburg Councillor Ed Halverson, a talented guitarist and entertainer himself, was stage manager for Weird Al from 2001-2003 across North American and Australian tours.
Rustler’s Rhapsody (1985)
High Noon (1952)
Shane (1953)
