TIME MACHINE: Community Newspapers Improving Canada’s Morality

Excerpted from Bridgewater Bulletin, Vol LXXIX, No. 17; Wednesday, October 5 1966:

“Canadian weekly newspapers are strong and are making greater advancements and contributions to community life than dailies in some instances, John Sancton, president of the Canadian Weekly Newspaper Association said at Dartmouth Friday. He told delegates to the Nova Scotia Weekly Newspapers Association annual banquet that weeklies across the country are standing on their own two feet… Mr. Sancton said the smaller newspapers, such as the weeklies have a contribution to make toward the morality of Canadian communities and are ably making an effort in this direction.”
