Bluenose II crew joined the ship April 1, marking the beginning of their season. Eleven young crew members joined, plus 6 returning officers. They will do two months of maintenance and rigging before starting their sailing season in June.
Blue Lantern Shellfish has started public consultation for a proposed new scallop and kelp farm in Mahone Bay. They are hosting a public information meeting May 1 at 6:30 pm at the Mahone Bay Centre Gymnasium.
Lunenburg Shipyard hauled the Halifax fire rescue boat Kjipuktuk, completing a full paint job, installing new gaskets on the hatches and windows, and replacing all anodes.
East River Shipyard recently launched S/V Nanook following a round of major upgrades this winter. Upgrades included: electrical system upgrades, engine servicing and sail servicing. S/V Nanook is now crossing the Atlantic to Northern Ireland, before heading north to the Arctic Circle, with the goal of becoming the first Australian-flagged vessel to explore this part of the Arctic.
Several tall ships could be visiting the area this spring/early summer on the way to the Great Lakes Tall Ships Challenge® and other ports. Stay tuned!
