Shipping News: Scalloping & Scooting around the Waterfront

After extensive work by Ocean Gear and the Fisheries Museum of the Atlantic shipwrights, Cape Sable has returned to her winter berth behind the museum.

KC Commander, sailed from North Sydney and docked in Lunenburg on Jan. 11. According to MarineTraffic, the 48-metre utility vessel is on its way to Meteghan. The vessel owners are HSBC Bank, who own two other vessels, Colby Perce and Aqua Service

On Jan. 17, both Northern Alliance and Maude Adams headed to their respective fishing grounds from Lunenburg. Maude Adams headed to the west and Northern Alliance to the east. Scallop catches have reportedly been down recently.

Bluenose II slid back into the water on the snowy morning of Jan. 29, after completing the drydock portion of its 10-year inspection and completing some regular maintenance. The vessel moved to its regular winter berth behind the Fisheries Museum of the Atlantic. 

Many local boat businesses exhibited at the annual Halifax International Boat Show Feb. 6-9 at exhibition park in Halifax. Some South Shore regulars include Michele Stevens Sailloft, Big Pond Boat Shop, the Lunenburg Chandlery, and the Mahone Bay Heritage Boatyard Co-op, to name just a few.
