Chris’ Picks for October 2023: Horror Month

Elizabeth’s Books, in the heart of the Town of Lunenburg’s bookselling district, boasts a rental library of more than five thousand DVDs. The shop usually opens around 6 p.m. each evening, never closing earlier than 10 p.m. Each month, proprietor Chris Webb recommends films for your consideration.

“I’ve got nine horror films for October,” says Chris.

Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Next Generation (1995)

American megastar Matthew McConaughey was at the start of his career in film when he portrayed evil antagonist Vilmer in Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Next Generation.

Five years after filming, on a Jamaican vacation, McConaughey heard music by reggae artist Mishka he later told the Canadian Press was “[…] incredibly relaxing, and at the same time, it was fun to party to.”

In 2009, Mishka had just relocated from B.C. to Lunenburg County – and McConaughey produced his album, “Above The Bones”. The album features backing vocals by Sara Johnston, musician and owner/operator of Lunenburg’s Nº 9 Coffee Bar.
