The ever-talented printmaker Vanessa McKiel and writer extraordinaire Katherine Barrett released a chapbook of their collaborative column Wild Talk this month during the Torn Edges: A Celebration of the Printmakers’ Art Exhibition at the Lunenburg Art Gallery.
The column, which Katherine has been penning since fall 2024, has grown a cult-like following amongst Barnacle readers. I often hear from locals that they are excited to find out what plant is being featured each month.
Starting in January 2025, Vanessa offered to accompany each plant interview with an original linocut. Her close study of each local plant beautifully accompanies Katherine’s whimsical (and factual!) descriptions. With 12 total linocuts and interviews, the two decided to print and publish a chapbook featuring the colour version of each print.
