From volunteers to monthly supporters, The Barnacle is a community initiative!
18 volunteers were a part of May’s issue of The Barnacle. 18!
I often get asked how we make The Barnacle happen each month. Like clockwork, our editorial team meets on Sunday nights around Issie’s kitchen table and we hash out how we can make the next issue bigger and better. And I could chalk our success up to the amazing efforts of this team that researches, writes and edits, but it’s just not true.
In reality, this is a massive community effort. The resurgence of print media and local news coverage is only possible if and when a community rallies behind it. In our case, over 50 volunteers have consistently donated time and expertise to make each issue happen.
Like Jessie Mclaughlin. Jessie is not only an incredible baker at No. 9 Coffee but also a talented illustrator. She really helped us find our branding and illustrative voice. Much of the early look we established was thanks to her work!
We love our volunteers and are so thankful that the little newspaper that could is supported by such a wide community.
If you believe in what we’re doing, the easiest way to support us is through a monthly donation. Even $3/month makes a huge difference in delivery quality, reliable news.
