TIME MACHINE: Mahone Bay by Tricycle

Each month, we turn our eyes to publications from Lunenburg County past to bring you excerpts from days gone by.

Selected From Lunenburg County Times, 29 July 1885:

The Lunenburg Wheelmen, or Cyclists, or whatever they call themselves, have begun to travel abroad on the wheel. Not long since Mr. Pollu, Dentist, and Mr. Heber M. Pattillo, a youthful teacher, travelled to Mahone Bay and back on bicycles. Last week Mr. Tremaine, a clerk in Nash’s Drug Store, went over the same road. Mr. Tremaine is an expert rider and easily covered the seven miles out to the Bay in three quarters of an hour.

Last, and least in size, on Monday of this week, two very young gentlemen, Master William Forbes, aged 11, and Master Robert Chesley, aged 9, travelled to Mahone Bay and back on tricycles, feeling quite independent as they pedalled off alone, and feeling quite proud as they pedalled back home, where they arrived about half-past six in the evening, apparently little tired after their fourteen miles journey.
