Shipping News: Warming Up Along the Waterfront

The Westergaard-built schooner Sea Change has returned to Lunenburg Harbour. Built locally by David Westergaard, and owned by Danielle and Julian Southcott, the vessel is a familiar and welcome sight along the waterfront.

A new offshore adventure is on the horizon for Nova Scotia — and a new way to access Sable Island. This year, a five-day charter will take guests from the Halifax waterfront all the way to Sable Island. The trip, aboard a small sailing vessel, offers a rare chance to reach the wild and windswept shores of the storied island.

On Sunday, April 27, the Digby-Saint John ferry Fundy Rose sailed past Lunenburg County as she headed to Halifax for a haulout.

The Mahone Bay Heritage Boatyard was abuzz on April 30 when they hosted a talk featuring David Houston, who spoke on the history of early shipbuilding in Mahone Bay. Greg and Russ added their craftsmanship to the night, sharing insights on oar making, half hull models, and plycraft. More events are in the works, so keep an eye out!.The trawler Northern Alliance has been spotted docked in Riverport in between fishing trips. Northern Alliance first landed in Lunenburg on December 16th after a 40-day transit from British Columia via the Panama Canal.
