Fear not car-less, unlicensed or auto-averse Lunenburg County-ites — Lunenburg County Wheels has expanded its service area, providing more opportunities for you to explore and enjoy our beautiful region.
Driving around since 1992, this community-based charity has historically provided pre-booked rides to seniors and people with disabilities in Bridgewater. After noticing the wider gap in available transportation, the volunteer-board worked hard to secure funding so that rides could be provided to everyone, and also serve Lunenburg, Mahone Bay and Riverport.
A door-to-door ride costs as little as $2.50 one-way and must be pre-booked. With a little bit of planning, you can grab your groceries at the Lunenburg Farmers’ Market Thursday morning and get a ride to lunch with your aunt in New Germany.

With the increase in demand and expanded service area, the organisation has worked hard to secure funding for more vehicles. The fleet includes wheelchair accessible buses and a minivan. Vans acquired in March even have bike racks so you can mix your favourite modes of transportation.
The charity employs over a dozen people, including dispatcher Ray Quesnel. In a profile on their website, Quesnel writes, “The best part of the job is when people call and they need something booked and you’re able to make it happen for them. And they’re extremely grateful. That really has a good feeling to it.”
LC Wheels’ President, Jerome Tanner, expresses his enthusiasm for the expanded services, stating, “It’s wonderful to offer affordable transportation to more communities and more people.”

This service is THE BEST. I just heard of it lately and used it to get to a medical appointment this past week. I’m blown away! What an excellent service for the people of Lunenburg County!
