Discover Your Next Read at Suggestive Night

An acronym that only avid readers will be familiar with is TBR: to be read. A TBR is the pile of books on your bedside table or your Want To Read list on Goodreads.com, or even a note on your phone that you open whenever a friend gushes about a fantastic book.

Mads Higgins, co-owner of Good Dog Books in Bridgewater, knows all about TBRs. Their event last month–cheekily called Suggestive Night–was inspired by hearing what their customers enjoyed reading. The event attendees drank tea, ate cookies, and took turns pitching a beloved book to the group.

“We had only brought twenty chairs, but 35 people showed up! Many of us sat on the floor, lending an adorable grade-school vibe to the function,” Higgins wrote to the Barnacle over email.

Following the pitches, the attendees voted on what the best book was (The Library at Mount Char by Scott Hawkins was the winner, which this reader has quickly added to her own TBR). The attendee who pitched this book then read aloud an excerpt from the book.

Higgins says the group was enthusiastic about the event, so another Suggestive Night is planned for Nov 18 at 6:30pm. The evening will be dedicated to pitching non-fiction books.

If you’re looking to expand your TBR, or perhaps even start it, Suggestive Night is the place to go.
