Thinking Beyond Band-Aids: Solidarity Community Building Series Starts This Month

The Lunenburg Community Health Board (LCCHB) has heard from the community about the rising cost of basic necessities, lack of housing, and struggles with mental well-being. The board is partnering with Bridgewater United Church (BUC) to connect through an ongoing dialogue with interested community members.

The LCCHB is inviting you to participate in the first of an ongoing series of conversations titled “Thinking Beyond Band Aids” on Monday March 31 (with a snow date of April 3) from 6:30 – 8:30 pm at the Bridgewater United Church, 87 Hillcrest Street.

These facilitated conversations aim to provide a safe space to connect with one another and discuss the impacts of rising costs, lack of safe housing, and social isolation in our communities.

The goal of this series of events is to create new connections between community members and organizations and tap into shared passion for addressing these existential problems. Participants can expect to leave each session with a deeper sense of who they are in community with and the changes we can make by working together and sharing our stories. The LCCHB and BUC are organizing these sessions with the perspective that everyone can contribute to change and has a story worth sharing.

Talking about these huge problems with new neighbours may seem like a small step, but it is an important one. Sharing stories and examining the challenges that exist in our Lunenburg County context will be followed up with concrete opportunities to advocate and support one another.

All ages are welcome to participate in this event, as this is an open to all community focused event designed to be as accessible as possible. Refreshments and free onsite childcare will be provided for this event. If transportation costs pose a barrier, attendees may have their expenses for transportation to and from this event reimbursed.

Any questions about Thinking Beyond Bandaids can be sent by email to Louise Hopper at louise.hopper@nshleath.ca. Lunenburg County Community Health Board and Bridgewater United Church hope to see you there!
