Farewell

Lunenburg is saying farewell to two of its finest next month, and while we’re sad to see them go, we’re thrilled for what’s ahead.

Jessie McLaughlin and Sienna Maeba, both artists and No. 9 Coffee employees, are heading back to Halifax for an exciting adventure in costume studies at Dalhousie University.

Jessie has been with the Barnacle since day one. We are forever indebted to her for helping us develop the signature hand-drawn look of our first issues and for providing countless adorable illustrations since. The Barnacle team has probably devoured dozens of her scones and cinnamon buns while writing at No. 9.

Sienna joined us a little later, adding her unique illustration style to the paper and quickly becoming a valuable monthly contributor. Turning the Barnacle into a monthly audio podcast was thanks to Sienna’s drive and determination.

We’re sad to see them go, but we’re deeply grateful that these two gals were part of our town and our project here at the Barnacle. Next time you’re sipping a coffee or snacking on a raspberry oat bar at No. 9, toast to these departed neighbours. Thank you, Jessie and Sienna!
