Cat’s in the Ladle: South Shore Centre’s Hottest New Flavour Haven: Tacoland

This summer, the South Shore Centre welcomed the town’s hottest new flavour haven. Tacoland, a family-run restaurant specializing in its namesake is bringing a taste of Mexico City to the town of Bridgewater. The restaurant opened in June and has served a steady stream of South Shore-ites through the summer months (myself included). My taste for tacos developed during a stint in Chicago, and I credit them with securing the sustenance to complete my graduate studies in the city.

The taste of Tacoland brings me back to those happy memories (and not the deadline-driven stress dreams). Tacoland’s must-haves include their Birria Taco, a meal so delicious it’s on the menu twice! Succulent shredded beef sits atop fresh corn tortillas, topped with cilantro, onions, and a housemade salsa. The authentic toppings add a bright contrast to the deeply savoury filling, which can be enjoyed as a consommé when ordered as a chef’s special on the menu.

The Al Pastor taco glistens with spiced seared pork and pineapple jewels. It’s a treasure chest of balanced flavours between the tender meat, natural sweetness, and refreshing toppings. For the plant-based patron, their vegan Al Pastor packed an equal flavour punch as its fleshy counterpart! For the entire taco selection, I strongly recommend the authentic taco toppings of cilantro and onions; for those unfortunate souls to whom cilantro tastes like soap, Tacoland offers alternatives including guacamole and cheese. Tacoland’s Birria and Al Pastor tacos score five out of five ladles this month, plus a healthy dose of their hot salsa! But no matter your palate or spice tolerance, Tacoland’s recently expanded menu has something for you!
