If May is the season fully settled in spring, then June marks the start of hoping for summer. For many, this means refreshing the weather app in constant yearning for a sunny weekend, or finally letting out that much needed exhale, now that the final frost of the season is behind us (let’s hope I’m not jinxing it). If the last 11 weeks have taught us anything, it’s that sunny weekends are apparently a luxury.
For me, June has always been a transitionary period. Growing up, it meant the end of school, being outdoors again, and finally starting to make summer plans. This year, it meant starting my first community garden plot, a career transition, and peeking out from behind my usual crossword to help put together this June issue.
This month, we talk about community, movement, transitions, and the heart of Lunenburg County. It’s a jam-packed issue that I hope resonates with you all. One of our most interactive issues to date, I encourage you to make your copy of this issue your own. Take out the markers, crayons, paint, scissors, whatever your heart desires, and let your creativity fly.
As part of this special issue, we kindly ask that you take the time to complete the Reader’s Survey. You can find the QR code in the paper, or we will also be distributing paper copies at some of our usual pick-up spots. In the simplest terms, we want to hear from you.
As a simple toast to June, thank you for giving us the space to settle into something new, and lean into the possibilities of this next season, whatever that may mean to you. June, you will always be appreciated.
