A little introduction, in case you are unfamiliar with our organization: The national Council of Canadians, founded in 1985, has had an active South Shore Chapter for over 25 years. Our goals are broad. We challenge corporate power and its influence on our democracy. We work for social and environmental justice and to improve public services and health care. We believe that this is a significant political moment. In Canada, as in much of the world, a wealthy and powerful elite is co-opting our democracy: eroding environmental protections, prioritizing military spending, and making life unaffordable for the many. By dominating mainstream media, they attempt to make it appear that their ultra-capitalist agenda is the only viable choice for our society. We believe that it is time to boldly challenge this unjust position to ensure that other voices are heard and socially equitable alternatives are considered.
Holding the strong belief that we are “the many vs the money”, our local chapter has committed to participate in the Global DRAW THE LINE Day of Action on Saturday, September 20. We invite you to join your friends and neighbours at Pijimiskaq Park in Bridgewater at 12p.m. to DRAW THE LINE for climate justice, peace, democracy, and a liveable future with a short march and rally. Please register here: DRAW THE LINE South Shore. This link will be updated as more details are confirmed.
We welcome other local social justice organizations to support, endorse or even co-sponsor this event. We are also seeking individuals who would like to help. Please contact us at southshore.coc@gmail.com.
