Áine MacLellan is a Lunenburg local with a passion for fashion. She was raised here on the South Shore with a love for vintage from an early age. Her style could best be described as “flower child” meets “coastal cowgirl.” You will most likely see this precious gem walking around the streets of Lunenburg with her cute dog Lucy in a fully thrifted outfit.
What’s your favourite thrifted piece you own? Where did you get it?
My favourite piece I’ve ever found is a bright pink and orange floral length April Cornell vintage maxi dress. It’s so light and colourful and just makes me feel great when I wear it. I’m such a sucker for a good floral print. I thrifted it at Value Village in Bridgewater, I really think that’s the best VV in the province. I would say 99% of my wardrobe is from there.
What’s a favourite memory tied to thrifting?
Since I was a kid we did most of our clothes shopping at Frenchy’s. My favourite was in late August, we would go with our cousins to the Valley Frenchy’s for all our back-to-school clothes. I come by a love of thrifting honestly.
Where do you get your fashion inspiration? Any local fashion crushes?
My fashion inspiration is ever-changing. I love vintage dresses, colourful silk shirts, comfy linen pants. I love a good floral skort paired with a vintage graphic tee. Lately, I just want a mix of colourful and comfy.
Lo Unsworth of Lulubell Vintage here in Lunenburg has such good style. I love how she mixes vintage and quality pieces together. I also was obsessed with her birthday full-sequined look and how she dyed her hair pink for the occasion!
What’s on your thrift wish list right now?
I am looking for a Suttles & Seawinds fleece jacket! Not something you usually see from them but I’ve come across one or two and I’m ready to add one to my collection!
Any hot thrifting tips?
Take your time, check every section. Wear leggings and a tank top when thrifting so it’s easy to try on over your clothes if there’s no change room! I also always find my best vintage jeans in the “men’s” section. Don’t forget you usually need to size up with vintage jeans!
