SUMMARY:Preludes and Postludes: How the 17th & 18th Centuries Predict the Future
DESCRIPTION:Finishing 2024 where we started: Preludes\, preluding as improvisation and what it means to begin a cycle. Reflecting on music\, the end of a year and beginning of another as we head into 2025 and musically into the 20th century. \n\n\n\nPianist Ian Tomaz presents a series of lectures and concerts which uses J.S. Bach’s Well Tempered Clavier Book 1 to guide the general public towards a deeper understanding of classical music and trace its influence on later composers. Each cycle includes one concert\, which pairs 6 of the 24 Preludes and Fugues with works of composers influenced by Bach; and three lectures\, where specific musical characteristics of each Prelude and Fugue are connected to later works\, showing the audience how the principles exemplified by Bach pervade all musical genres and eras. This series is inspired by Nadia Boulanger\, whose work Ian has been studying in Paris since 2021\, and takes place across Fall 2024 and Spring 2025.

SUMMARY:A Rose In Winter
DESCRIPTION:A Rose in Winter\, coming this December\, is a joyous celebration of Christmas that brings the audience and performers fully into the profound beauty and poignancy of the holiday. The concert is a presentation of readings and music that showcases The Choir of the Cathedral of All Saints directed by Paul Halley. \n\n\n\nA Rose in Winter\, now in its third year\, is the successor to fifteen years of A King’s Christmas\, presented while Paul Halley was director of the King’s Chapel Choir. This in turn was the successor to fifteen years of Christmas Angelicus concerts in Connecticut with Chorus Angelicus and Gaudeamus\, choirs Paul and his wife founded in 1992. And before that\, A Chorister’s Christmas was the celebration of the season at The Cathedral of St. John The Divine in New York where Paul was Director of Music. In this long tradition\, a guest artist/narrator was engaged to help select and present the readings\, but this year\, Halley will select from among his choir to handle the narration of poetry and stories\, since among these accomplished singers lay the not-so-hidden talents of actors\, comedians\, and poets.

SUMMARY:Mapping Waters Path: Workshop on Dealing with Water on your Property
DESCRIPTION:Water doesn’t just pass through the landscape—it shapes it. In Dealing with Water\, we get into the nuts and bolts of harnessing water’s flow to build resilient environments. From the impact of overland flow on soil health to deflection techniques that protect vulnerable areas\, this workshop explores how to work with water\, not against it. We’ll dive into mapping runoff\, weighing the pros and cons of hard versus soft surfaces\, and how to use simple tools like rain barrels\, weeping tiles\, and swales to transform spaces. We’ll also cover plant-based solutions\, from rain gardens to native vegetation that absorbs\, transpires\, and redirects water where it’s needed. This is about building balance—creating a landscape that thrives by letting water take its course. This workshop delves into practical strategies for managing water in your landscape.

SUMMARY:Late night shopping\, food\, and labyrinth!
DESCRIPTION:Spend the Winter Solstice in Port Medway! On Saturday December 21\, Rosefinch Mercantile and Tea Room is staying open until 9pm at 1615 Port Medway Road. \n\nWe’ll have delicious food by galeforce feasts\, a popup sale by Salt-Water Ballad Books\, \nfestive hot drinks\, holiday movies\, and charming and delightful items perfect for giving.\n\nAlso! We’ve invited Mary MacIntosh to install a temporary labyrinth in the backyard for the event! She and Marg Millard are working away on ice moulds to light the path with candles\, and it’s going to be so beautiful and magical. \n\nSuze will have a fire going back there\, and Haritha will be making hot chocolate in here — so there will be lots of ways to warm up after walking the path. Please join us\, and help us spread the word. It’s going to be a really lovely night. We are at Exit 17A off the 103\, between Bridgewater and Liverpool. \n\nBring your friends! This will be a lovely way to spend the Winter solstice\, I can’t wait. 🌬️❄️🌲💌

SUMMARY:Ornamushrooms of Lunenburg: Artist Talk
DESCRIPTION:ARTIST TALK & OPENING RECEPTION: Thursday\, January 16th\, 2024 at 7:00pm.\nThis is a free event\, no registration required. \n\nCat Bluemke’s “Ornamushrooms of Lunenburg” playfully weaves the Town’s architectural heritage with speculative future ecologies through experimental sculpture. Reproducing Lunenburg’s vernacular ornamentation through 3D models and mycelium\, her “Ornamnushrooms” probe the tension in our relationships to housing and food security amidst the global crisis of climate change. As both recent transplant and town resident\, the Artist situates her process within a historical lineage of adapting new technologies to local tastes. The exhibition explores a provocative dialogue between rot and renewal in coastal communities. Can we embrace the decay of our social fabric\, if it proves fertile ground to grow a new future?
